"We miss 100% of the shots we never take"

"We miss 100% of the shots we never take"
It's been a huge week around our household.
Our eldest son had a birthday and got his learner's permit.

His birthday is always an emotional one for me, not only am I aware of his growing older but it is an anniversary of the day I was closest I've ever been to dying.  It was a rough road for the both us , those first few weeks of his new life and incurred hospital bills that took us until he was about four to pay off.

Not exactly all the rainbows and roses I had envisioned in fulfilling my dream in becoming a mother.   BUT, all these years later, we are both here and healthy. So all kinds of big emotions and thoughts but so much gratitude for the gift of life.

On Friday, just the two of us loaded into the car,
Except this time he was in he driver's seat.

Both of us took two deep breaths,  clicked in our respective seat belts, he did all the checks he learned in driving school, and put the car into reverse.

When he pulled back into our drive way, we were both different people than we were just a very short time earlier.

He took all the classes and passed the permit test with flying colors.

But much like life, driving is something we have to DO it to master it.
It is the only way.  No amount of researching the laws, studying car parts, or cerebrally visioning outcomes is gonna do the trick.

We can't think our way into driving.  We have to get in there and actually do it.

This has me thinking about how much of life requires the same.

We have to act and experience, to learn.

My coach once said to me, "You miss 100% of the shots you never take."

Talk about a total truth bomb.

So the more experiments and experiences you take, the better.
